Kittilä (Levi and Western Lapland)
Kittilä
Kittilä is located in northern Finland, about 150 km north of Rovaniemi and well above the Arctic Circle in Finnish Lapland. The municipality has around 6,400 residents and serves as an important gateway to several popular destinations in the region.
Kittilä Airport (KTT) is the main arrival point for travellers visiting Western Lapland. It is served by regular flights from Helsinki as well as seasonal international and charter flights during the winter months. From the airport, visitors can easily reach many well-known Lapland destinations.
The closest and most popular destination is Levi, Finland’s largest ski resort, located about 15 km from Kittilä Airport in the village of Sirkka. Levi offers a wide range of winter activities, Northern Lights excursions and accommodation options, making it a convenient base for exploring the Arctic.
Kittilä Airport is also the most practical arrival point for Muonio, located about 55–60 km away. Muonio is known for its peaceful Arctic landscapes and proximity to Pallas–Yllästunturi National Park, offering excellent opportunities for Northern Lights viewing, wilderness adventures and quiet Arctic stays away from larger resorts.
Further north, the remote village of Kilpisjärvi lies around 280 km from Kittilä Airport. Located at the meeting point of Finland, Norway and Sweden, Kilpisjärvi is known for its dramatic Arctic scenery, the iconic Saana fell and vast surrounding wilderness areas. Although remote, it can be reached by road transfers from Kittilä and offers visitors the chance to experience one of the most untouched parts of Finnish Lapland.
Our escorted Christmas tours staying in Äkäslompolo fly in and out of Kittilä Airport.
