Urban Nature Experiences with La Humla Suse

Discover Oslo’s Hidden Wild Side: Urban Nature Experiences with La Humla Suse

Oslo is known for its striking architecture, vibrant food scene and easy access to nature—but woven quietly into our itineraries is a greener story that most visitors never encounter. Through our Impact Fund, 50 Degrees North has partnered with Norwegian conservation organisation La Humla Suse to offer two intimate, enquiry-only urban nature experiences, thoughtfully integrated into selected Oslo journeys.

Designed as one-hour additions within our itineraries, these experiences invite travellers to slow down and connect with biodiversity, sustainability and place-based storytelling, guided by experts who work hands-on with urban nature every day. Calm and meaningful in nature, they add depth and perspective to time spent in the city, revealing a softer, more reflective side of Oslo.

A partnership rooted in real impact

La Humla Suse is dedicated to protecting wild pollinators, particularly bumblebees, which play a vital role in healthy ecosystems. Their work spans adapting green urban spaces, education and community engagement. Through support from the 50 Degrees North Impact Fund, La Humla Suse has been able to employ a full-time biologist, strengthening their capacity to deliver hands-on conservation projects and public education.

These Oslo experiences are a direct extension of that partnership, transforming active conservation work into thoughtful, expert-led encounters that are available exclusively as part of our itineraries.

Ola Narr – Wildflower Meadow & Bumblebees

Just minutes from the city centre, the elevated meadow at Ola Narr offers sweeping views across Oslo and a surprisingly rich natural environment. Guided by La Humla Suse biologists, guests learn how pollinators survive and thrive in urban landscapes, why biodiversity matters in cities, and how green infrastructure can be designed to support nature. A safe, hands-on bumblebee identification activity makes the experience engaging and memorable.

The Mother by Tracey Emin – Art Meets Ecology

Located beside the Munch Museum, this experience brings together contemporary art and urban ecology. Guests explore the wildflower meadow surrounding Tracey Emin’s sculpture The Mother, discovering how pollinator habitats can be integrated into cultural, architectural and artistic spaces. The setting encourages reflection and appeals especially to travellers with an interest in art, design and sustainability.

A meaningful addition to your Oslo journey

These urban nature experiences can be added on any suitable day within a 50 Degrees North Oslo itinerary, offering a flexible and enriching way to spend an hour in the city. They are ideal for travellers who value sustainability, enjoy learning from experts, and appreciate experiences that feel personal rather than touristic.
